Garnett Evans Akins, age 86, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Monday, June 6, 2005 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born March 9, 1919 to the late Edward Tucker Akins and Laura "Leola" Cawthon Akins both from Greene County. During World War II he served in the United States Army. After the War he married Christine Poss and moved to their home on Greene Street. They were married for sixty years. Most of his life he was a farmer which he enjoyed very much. He was a textile worker for Mary Leila Cotton Mill which later became Wellington Puritan and retired in 1994 after forty years of service. Mr. Akins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro.

In addition to his wife, Christine Akins of Greensboro, GA, he is survived by two daughters, June A. Franck and husband David of Allen, TX and Jean Akins of Greensboro, GA; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Mark Hudson and son Marcus of Allen, TX, Carol Holloway, husband Jim and their children Jake and Alyssa of Allen, TX, and Brian Franck, wife Angela and their children Emily and Ashlyn of Princeton, TX; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Jessie Akins and W.C. "Buck" Akins.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 1:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Franck (Grandson), Mark Hudson (Grandson), Byron Akins (Nephew), Sam Williamson (Nephew), Michael Lanier (Cousin), James Wheeler (Friend) and Richard Tolbert (Friend). Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Williamson (Nephew) and Freddie Lonergan (Cousin). The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home.
