Garee Slider Obituary

Garee Ayton Slider, age 65, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Monday, September 29, 2003 at his residence. A native of Decatur, Illinois, he was born January 18, 1938 and was later adopted by the late Benjamin R. Slider and Louise Ayton Slider. After graduating from Decatur High School in Illinois, he received a degree from the University of Illinois in 1959 and attended Northwestern University Law School in 1960. He began his career with Illinois Bell, later transferred to AT&T before becoming Executive Director for Bell Communications Research in Livingston, NJ where he spent 30 years before retiring in 1990. He was former president of the Telephone Pioneers of America (BellCore Chapter) and volunteered for over 10 years at St. Lukes Community Soup Kitchen in Atlanta. A  He is survived by his wife, Rosemary L. Slider of Greensboro, GA; a son, David Slider of Glendale, AZ; three grandchildren, Kirsten Slider, Yoselinne Morales and Thomas David Slider; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a son, Douglas Slider, in 1982. A  Memorial Services will be held on Sunday, October 12, 2003 at 3:00 p.m. at the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Greensboro with The Rev. D. Geoffrey Taylor, Deacon in Charge and The Rev. Nancy Baxter, Celebrant. The family requests that any memorials be made to Crossroads Community Ministries, In Memory of Garee A. Slider, c/o St. Lukes Episcopal Church, Attention Clyde Corbin, 435 Peachtree Street N.E., Atlanta, GA 30308 or to the charity of your choice. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
