G. Allen Griffith, Sr

George Allen Griffith, Sr., beloved husband, father and grandfather, died on Monday, June 10, 2013 at the age of 69 at Athens Regional Medical Center. He was born in Aiken, South Carolina on June 6, 1944, the son of the late John Lewis Griffith and Eunice Widner Griffith. He grew up and attended school in Jersey, Georgia and married the former Judith Sorrow, forty-four years ago on June 29th and had two children. He was a utility worker for the City of Union Point retiring three years ago. Allen was an active member of Bethesda Baptist Church serving as deacon. He loved deer hunting and tending to his farm animals. Allen was a good baseball player and dedicated many hours to umpiring little league games.

In addition to his wife Judy Griffith of Union Point, GA, Allen is survived by a daughter, Anne Rhoden and husband Eddie of Union Point, GA; a son, Al Griffith and wife Lisa of Cornelia, GA; a brother, Johnny Griffith of Monroe, GA; two grandchildren, Zeke and Eli Griffith; other relatives and many long time friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Donald Griffith and Tina Griffith Johnson.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, June 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Jim Olds officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are, Richard Cronic, David Cronic, Darrell Maxwell, Clinton Maxwell, Jeff Griffith and Bud Thornton. The family will receive friends Tuesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
