Frederick Maurice “Fred” Morrison, Jr. 86, of Greensboro, GA, died Monday May 7, 2012 at Peachtree Christian Hospice in Duluth, GA. Born on August 16, 1925, in Palm Beach, FL he was the son of the late Frederick Maurice Morrison, Sr., and Kathryn DaCamara Morrison. He was a graduate of West Palm Beach High School and later attended GA Tech University where he graduated in 1949 with a degree in Civil and Industrial Engineering.
During World War II Fred served his country in the US Army Air Corp. His business career began as an employee of General Shoe Co., and as such was the initiator of the company’s expansion into South America. Before his retirement in 1992, Fred had started his own import/export leather company in Brazil. After his retirement, he moved to Pleasant Hill, TN with his wife, Betty Lou, who preceded him in death in January 1994. In December 1995, Fred married Sara Hunt and they lived in Uplands Retirement Village, Pleasant Hill, until they moved to Greensboro in September 2010. They became members of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer where the memorial service will be held on Friday, May 11 at 6:00pm with Father Joe Greene III officiating.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by three daughters and their husbands: Serena and William George (Piedmont, S.C), Melanie and Luis Vinuelas (Phoenix, AZ), Starr and Jim Courter (Greensboro, GA). Other survivors include his sister, Nancy Orthwein, and the joys of his life: seven grandchildren and two great grandsons.
Following the memorial service the family will receive friends in the Activities Center of the church located at 303 N. Main Street, Greensboro, GA. The family requests that any memorial be made to Peachtree Christian Hospice, 3430 Duluth Park Lane, Duluth, GA 30096.
