Franklin Walker Obituary

Franklin Deleon Walker, age 80, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Monday, December 1, 2008. His strong faith and relationship with the Lord led him through a long and courageous battle with Leukemia. Deleon was a lifelong resident of Greene County and a faithful member of Walker United Methodist Church. For a number of years he was a member of the trustees and also Sunday School superintendent. He was born on May 2, 1928 the son of the late Edwin Turner Walker, Jr. and Ethel Ellenberg Walker. Deleon graduated from Greensboro High School and on July 14, 1951 he married Elizabeth Moore. He was owner and operator of Walker Dairy in which he was actively involved until his passing.

Survivors include his wife of fifty-seven years, Elizabeth Moore Walker, of Greensboro; a daughter Debbie Blitch and husband Fred of Statesboro; a son, Kent Walker and wife Melinda of Greensboro; grandchildren, Erick and Walker Blitch of Statesboro and Catie Walker of Athens; sisters, Ellene Hunt of Greensboro, Hilda Epstein and husband Steve of Atlanta, Doris Kenny and husband Joe of Augusta and Betty Kelly of Greensboro; and a number of nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Samuel Richard Walker and Edwin G. Walker; and two sisters, Mary Edna Walker and Faye Walker Travis.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 3, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at Walker United Methodist Church with Rev. John Pike, Rev. Wayne Usry and Barry Dye officiating. Interment will follow at Walker Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Comer Tolbert, Doug Askew, Richard Woodward, Ken Cawthon, Andy Moore and Jimmy Walker. Honorary pallbearers are Ray Copelan, Charles Copelan, Billy Copelan, Lewis Duvall, Jamie Reynolds, John Callaway, Barry Dye and Francis Byce. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday night at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Walker United Methodist Church, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642 or St. Mary''s Hospice, 1500 Oglethorpe Avenue Suite 200-C, Athens, GA 30606.
