Franklin Joseph McCannon, Sr., age 56, of Union Point, GA, died on Sunday, January 20, 2008 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. Son of the late Robert Gilfred McCannon and Minnie Turner McCannon, Franklin was born on February 12, 1951 in Greene County. As a child he attended school in Union Point and then attended Greene County High School in Greensboro. For a number of years he owned and operated his own pulpwood business. He then went to work for Georgia Kraft which became Plum Creek where he was a Master Timber Harvester for thirty-four years. He married the former Wanda Hubbard of Union Point on August 18, 1973 and they had been married thirty-five years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Union Point.
In addition to his wife, Wanda Hubbard McCannon, of Union Point, GA, he is survived by two sons, Franklin Joseph McCannon, Jr. of Union Point, GA and Robert Thomas "Robby" McCannon of Union Point, GA; two sisters, Dorothy Wray and husband George of Bairdstown and Ann Worthen and husband Kenneth of Woodville, GA; three brothers, Fred McCannon and wife Julia of Union Point, GA, Harold McCannon of Athens, GA and Kenneth McCannon and wife Pat of Pennsylvania; a grandson, Robert Thomas McCannon, Jr.; and a host of friends and other relatives.
Graveside Services will be held Tuesday, January 22, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point with the Rev. Jim Olds officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Donnie Harrison, Darrell Powers, Josh Lindsey, Mark Fuller, Jason Manley and Scott Smith. Serving as honorary pallbearers are the employees of Plum Creek.
