Frank Graves Mitchell III

Frank Graves “Baby Frank” Mitchell III, age 73, of Crawfordville, GA, died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the University Hospital in Augusta. He was born on November 26, 1936 in Wilkes County, GA to the late Frank Graves Mitchell, Jr. and Nina Kate Rhodes Mitchell. Baby Frank graduated from Alexander Stephens Institute in Crawfordville. In November of 1955 he married the former Martha Norris “Linda” and they made their home in Crawfordville. He was involved in the dairy and timber businesses and was a beef cattle farmer. He was a member of the Crawfordville United Methodist Church and once served as Superintendent of Sunday School. Frank was a director of The People’s Bank in Crawfordville, GA and a former board member of Wills Memorial Hospital in Washington, GA. For many years he was President of the Farm Bureau and served on the board of Water and Soil Conservation. He is survived by his wife of fifty-four years, Martha Norris “Linda” Mitchell of Crawfordville, GA; four daughters, Faith McElveen and husband Chris of Crawfordville, GA, India Harris and husband Mercer of Washington, GA, Carmine Cowart and husband Alan of Savannah, GA and Kathleen Price and husband Steven of Savannah, GA; a son, Frank Graves Mitchell IV and wife Heather of St. Simons, GA; a sister, Kathlyn Barksdale of Conyers, GA; twelve grandchildren, Christopher McElveen Jr., Joelle McElveen, Matthew McElveen, Blake Winfrey and wife Kariss, Adam Winfrey, Ashlyn Reese and husband Ryan, Kendrick Harris, Chandler Harris, Ryan Cowart, Nina Kate Cowart, Frank Graves Mitchell V and Mallory Mitchell; a great granddaughter, Lilly Claire Reese; and many other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Frances Mitchell King and Nina Mitchell Bond. Funeral Services will be held Friday, April 9, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. at Crawfordville United Methodist Church, corner of Moore St. & Alexander St.,Crawfordville, GA with Pastor Sandy Heslop officiating. Interment will follow at the Sandy Cross United Methodist Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Grandsons: Christopher McElveen Jr., Matthew McElveen, Ryan Cowart, Chandler Harris, Blake Winfrey and Adam Winfrey. Serving as honorary pallbearers are Larry Veazey, Bobby Moore, Matt Nunn, Wales Barksdale, Randolph Barksdale, Mitch Bond, Rodd King, Ladd King, Lloyd Kelly, Dickie Fowler and Jimmy Summers. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point GA.
