Frank Thomas Hopkins, Jr.
Frank Thomas Hopkins, Jr. passed away Tuesday October 31, 2017 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. He was 92. Frank was born December 7, 1924 to the late Mary Ann Brown Hopkins and Frank Thomas Hopkins, Sr. He was born in Washington, GA and lived there until he was eleven and then his family moved to Greene County. After serving in the Army, Frank returned to Greene County and graduated from Union Point High School in 1946 and also graduated from business school through the Veterans Administration. On May 20, 1960 he married the former Clara Payne and they made their permanent home in Greensboro. For forty-three years he was a supervisor at Mary Leila Cotton Mill and also worked for the City of Greensboro Housing Authority for thirty years. After spending most of his working career at two jobs he retired in 1990. Much of his spare time was spent planting the garden and plowing his mules. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Union Point, GA.
Along with his wife of fifty-seven years, Clara Payne Hopkins of Greensboro, GA; Frank is survived by two daughters, Marie Hopkins Lindsey of Greensboro, GA and Paige Hopkins Mitchell of Athens, GA; four grandchildren, Josh Lindsey, Jay Lindsey (Rene), Kim Lindsey and Jake Pintar; seven great grandchildren, Dylan Ellis, Taylor Lindsey, Lindsey Ellis, Colton Lindsey, Lauren Lindsey, John Bentley Lindsey and Gradon Lindsey; brother, Roger Hopkins (Eloise); and a host of other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Kathryn Hopkins Arthur, Frances Hopkins Cato Cantrell, Margaret Hopkins Lundy, and Edward Hopkins.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, November 2, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Rev. Marc Lhowe officiating. The pallbearers will be Jay Lindsey, Josh Lindsey, Taylor Lindsey, Dylan Ellis, Acee McWhorter and Wayne Lindsey. Interment will follow at the Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point, GA. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Thursday before the service at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
