Francis Lenora “Sue” Durshimer, age 87, passed away at Greene Point Health Care in Union Point, Georgia on August 20, 2006. Miss Durshimer resided in Albany, Georgia for over fifty years. She graduated from Beauty College in Jacksonville, Florida and M. Lewis Hair Design in New York. She was a World War II Veteran. Sue was owner of Sue’s On Slappey Beauty Salon in Albany. She was a member of the National Hairdressers and Cosmetologist Association, The Georgia Hair Design Council, The Georgia State Examining Board, Albany-Dougherty Chamber of Commerce, Women in the Military and the American Legion Post 30. She was three times President of the Albany Hairdressers Association and the first to donate hair dryers to Phoebe Putney Hospital and also donated an antique permanent wave machine to the Thronateeska Heritage Center.
She was preceded in death by her father and mother, Norman and Margie Durshimer and a sister, Emma Jeanne Berry. Survivors include two sisters, Patricia Hutchinson and husband Hutch of Longview, Texas and Norma “Pocket” Patterson and husband Pat of Monroe, Georgia; a brother, Jack Durshimer and wife Barbara of Greensboro, Georgia; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, August 25, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Floral Memory Gardens in Albany, Georgia. Family and friends are asked to meet at the gravesite.
