Frances Smith “Polly” Lanier
Frances Smith “Polly” Lanier of White Plains, GA, died Thursday, September 17, 2015 at Providence Health and Rehabilitation in Sparta, GA. She was 70. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born on February 27, 1945 to the late Walter Benjamin Smith, Sr. and Meda Strickland Smith. She graduated from Greensboro High School in 1963 and on December 17, 1965 married Robert Lloyd “Bobby” Lanier. For many years she was a homemaker, but after raising her children, she worked for Coleman Store in White Plains. She was a longtime and faithful member of Centennial Christian Church. Polly enjoyed baking and cooking and was always helping others.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Reese Smith, Billy Smith and Walter Smith, Jr. She is survived by her devoted husband, Bobby Lanier of White Plains; three sons, Steve and Deandra Lanier of Union Point, Ben and Kay Lanier of White Plains and Morgan and Amanda Lanier of White Plains; grandchildren, Peyton and Austin Lanier and Chelsey Epps; brothers, Richard Smith, Bobby Smith; and a sister, Beth Williams; numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
Graveside Services will be held, Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Craig Foster officiating. The family will receive friends Saturday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at Liberty United Methodist Church Fellowship Hall. Serving as pallbearers are Lane Smith, Adam McKinley, Jeff Smith, Austin Lanier, Peyton Lanier, Martin Smith and Michael Lanier. Honorary pallbearers will be William Coleman, Grant Coleman, Allen Coleman, James Coleman, David Strickland, John Myers, William Myers, Billy Marchman and Allen Eaton. Any memorials may be made to Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Ann Smith, 2491 Shiloh Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
