Frances Beatrice Corry

Frances Beatrice Corry, age 86, of Union Point, Georgia, died on Tuesday, July 25, 2006 at Athens Regional Medical Center. Daughter of the late Robert Crawford Corry and Frances Cornelia Cary, Frances was born on August 12, 1919, at the Corry home place in Union Point, GA. She graduated from Union Point High School in 1936, North Georgia College in 1938 and Georgia State College for Women in 1941 where she earned a Bachelor of Science degree. After college she taught high school English and French in Union Point from 1939 until 1941, taught in Fayette County from 1941 until 1946 and was the Librarian for Putnam County High School from 1947 until 1948. She then moved to Atlanta where she worked for BellSouth and AT&T. Under BellSouth she returned to Clemson University and earned a degree in engineering. In 1960 she was the first woman Electrical Engineer for BellSouth and AT&T in the Engineering Department. She retired as the Department Manager in 1984 after thirty-six years. Miss Corry organized the Greene County Wayside Home Chapter #2567 of the United Daughters of the Confederacy on August 20 1991 and received its charter on September 20, 1991. She was a devoted member, serving in many positions, but her favorite work was registrar. She enjoyed reading and traveling, but her greatest joy were her nieces and nephews. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Union Point, GA.

She is survived by a sister, Lois Corry Cheves of Union Point, GA; a niece, Becky Moye and husband Dr. Daniel D. Moye of Athens, GA; a nephew, Dr. Harry L. "Bo" Cheves III and wife Dr. Ruby Cheves of Union Point, GA; six great nieces and nephews, Meagan, Matthew, Morgan and Mallory Moye of Athens, GA and Alex and Rebecca Cheves of Union Point, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, July 27, 2006 at 3:00 p.m. at the First Presbyterian Church in Union Point with the Rev. Dr. Ford G''Segner officiating. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery in Union Point. Serving as pallbearers are Dave Heffner, Tim Bramlett, Lanier Rhodes, Bill Rhodes and J. Boswell. Honorary pallbearers are Paulette George, Martha Dean Stewart, Ed Corry, Owen Scott, Frank Barnes, Sib Bryan, Joyce Heffner, Carol Bramlett and Nancy Sanderson.
