FloRene Hatcher Boswell

FloRene Hatcher Boswell, 98, of Greensboro, GA, died Thursday, April 12, 2007 at Willow Run Retirement Home. Born on June 27, 1908 in Wrightsville, GA, she was the daughter of the late Alonzo Lee Hatcher and Minnie Tompkins Hatcher. She was a graduate of Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville with a Major in Education and a Minor in Music. FloRene was an accomplished pianist. In the 1940''s and 1950''s FloRene and her next door neighbors started a little combo, called the Main Streeters, playing for dances, various civic gatherings, as well as private parties. During rehearsals patrons of the movie theatre hearing the music would drift over and sit on the Boswell''s porch listening to the old sounds until the wee hours. For approximately twenty years, she was the Director for the Greene County Department of Family and Children Services. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Greensboro where she was the organist for more than twenty years.

She was preceded in death by her husband of sixty years, James E. Boswell; a sister, Polly Beaver and a brother, Al Hatcher. She is survived by a daughter, June Boswell Scales of Athens, GA; four sons, James "Jimmy" Boswell Jr. and wife Edith of Huntsville, AL, William H. "Billy" Boswell and wife Laura of Watkinsville, GA, Robert L. "Bobby" Boswell and wife Faith of Greensboro, GA and Philip "Phil" Boswell and wife Dianne of Griffin, GA; and a number of grandchildren, great grandchildren, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Monday, April 16, 2007, at 2:00 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro with Rev. Ira McKeever officiating. Inurnment will be at Siloam Cemetery. The family will receive friends after the memorial service at the Historic Hall-Thomas House, 109 W. Broad Street, Greensboro, GA.
