Father G. Philip Ryan, age 65, of Eatonton, Georgia, died on Wednesday, February 17, 2016. Born May 26, 1950 in Kilkenny Ireland, Father Ryan was the third child of Godfrey Laurence and Patricia Dalton Ryan.  He began his career in catering, then moved into hotel management and managed several prominent Irish hotels over a seventeen year career.  Father Ryan entered St. John’s Seminary in Waterford and was ordained to the priesthood at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Kilkenny for the Archdiocese of Atlanta on May 12, 1988.  His first assignment as a priest was Parochial Vicar at St. John Neumann in Lilburn.  Following that, he was appointed Parochial Vicar at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Athens where he served eighteen months before being named Pastor of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Washington, GA, including Purification Church in Sharon and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Elberton.  In September of 2002 he was assigned Pastor at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Griffin, GA.  In June of 2005, he was named Pastor of Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church in Greensboro, GA where he served until July of 2014.

Father Ryan is survived by brothers John Ryan (Eileen) and Patrick Ryan (Laura) of Kilkenny Ireland; 6 nephews, 2 nieces; a number of great nieces and nephews; and 2 special uncles, Billy and Frank also of Kilkenny.  He was predeceased by his mother and father and a sister, Angela.

A Funeral Mass will be held Friday, February 26, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church, 6341 Lake Oconee Parkway, Greensboro, GA 30642 with Archbishop Wilton D. Gregory officiating. Interment will follow at 2:30 PM in Arlington Memorial Park, 201 Mt. Vernon Parkway, Sandy Springs, GA  30328.  A vigil will be held Thursday, February 25, 2016 at 7:00 PM at Christ Our King and Savior Catholic Church.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
