Evelyn E. Vines
Mary Evelyn Elfers Vines of Eatonton, Georgia passed away Sunday, September 8th, 2019 at the age of 91. Born on July 30th, 1928, she was the daughter of the late Raymond James Elfers and Elizabeth Reddick Elfers. She was a recent resident of Eatonton, having spent most of her life in Springfield, Virginia.
Evelyn spent her youth in Lexington, Kentucky where she met her husband, Robert. Evelyn always said that he was the smartest and most handsome man she ever met. They lived there with their two daughters until 1966 when a career change took the family to the Virginia suburbs of Washington, DC. Evelyn was a homemaker, storyteller extraordinaire, and never met a person she didn’t like. She left a lasting impression on everyone she encountered with her friendliness and openness. She was a long time member of Saint Bernadette’s Catholic Church in Springfield, Virginia.
Survivors include two daughters, Lynn Hill (Thomas) of Gaithersburg, Maryland and Judy Vines (Laura Miller) of Eatonton, Georgia; grandchildren, Stephanie Hill, Karen Hill, and Andrew Hill. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Lee Vines.
Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia. The family requests that donations be made to the Saint Jude’s Children’s Hospital. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
