Eunice Mildred Thaxton Nicholas

Eunice Mildred Thaxton Nicholas, 96, of Siloam, Georgia, entered into rest on Sunday, May 25, 2014 at Select Specialty Hospital in Augusta, GA. She was born in Lexington, GA in Oglethorpe County on January 31, 1918 to the late Robert Daniel and Lizzie Mae Boatwright Thaxton.  Mildred graduated from Meson Academy in Oglethorpe County. She went on to be a nurse and worked for Aiken County Hospital, New York City Hospital and then for Crawford Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA for a total of thirty-two years.  She was a beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother to her children and grandchildren.  She was a caregiver with a heart of gold for many, many years.  Beside taking care of her  family, some of her favorite activities were painting, reading and doing crossword puzzles.

In addition to her parents, Robert and Mary Thaxton, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Eddie Thaxton, Malvin Thaxton, Fannie Poulnott and Cleo McCannon; and a granddaughter, Millie Bickerstaff. She leaves behind four children, Gayle Spire of Belvedere, SC, Robert Ellis and Karen of Lafayette, TN, Phyllis Bickerstaff of Siloam, GA and Wayne Ellis and Faye of Gainesville, GA; nineteen grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren and twenty-nine great, great grandchildren.

A viewing will be held Thursday, May 29, 2014 from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point, GA.  Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
