Eula Josephine Channell Smith, 92, of Greensboro, GA died Saturday, February 7, 2004 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born August 14, 1911 to the late Henry Thomas Channell and Annie Louise Epps Channell. She was a homemaker and was a member of the Union Point Worship Center where she was secretary and treasurer and taught Sunday School. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother.
She is survived by eight daughters, Martha May Kilgore and husband Merle of Gyton, GA, Patricia Mize and husband Rollin of Greensboro, GA, Carolyn Hoyt and husband Herbert of Between, GA, Shirley Higdon of White Plains, GA, Nancy Cason and husband Denny of Stephens, GA, Denise Bashore and husband Joe of Greensboro, GA, Jane Winslett and husband Dwight of Woodville, GA and Wanda Wilkes and husband Ronnie of Greensboro, GA; four sons, Buford Smith and wife Charlotte of Oakwood, GA, Franklin Smith and wife Pauline of Milledgeville, GA, N. J. Smith and wife Alice of Hudson, FL and Robert Smith and wife Rachel of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Doris Garrett of Mooresville, NC; 48 grandchildren; 60 great grandchildren; and 4 great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fletcher Lee Smith; and a daughter Frances Smith.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 10, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church with Rev. Gary Nicholas, Rev. Jeff Daws and Rev. Kerwin Kilgore officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Keith Kilgore, Randy Smith, Chad Madden, Duane Higdon, Ron Herrington and Brad Wilkes. Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Herrington, Lee Smith and B. J. Wilkes. The family requests that any memorials be made to Gideons International, P. O. Box 925, Athens, GA 30603.
