Eugene Walker Ruark

Eugene Walker “Gene” Ruark, of Covington, Georgia, died Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Northridge Health & Rehabilitation in Commerce, GA at the age of 91.  Gene was born in Bairdstown, GA on April 29, 1926, the son of the late Lennie Joel Ruark and Annie Eliza Ruark.  Gene attended school in Woodville, and graduated from Union Point High School.  On March 2, 1963 he married the former Annie Rachel Jones. For 20 years he proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II on the Carrier Aircraft Supply Unit  in the Admiralty Islands. He also served in the Korean War on the Korea Essex Ship in the Pacific Theater.  For a short time he worked for the Chenile Bedspread Factory and then returned to the military.  After his service in the military he worked for Delta Air Lines as an aircraft electrician retiring after 20 years.  He also spent 13 years in the stump grinding business. He was a member of Alcovy Mountain Baptist Church in Monroe, GA where he was very active.  
 
In addition to his first wife, Gladys Wray Ruark, he was preceded in death by second wife, Rachel Jones Ruark; a son, David Giles Ruark; and his siblings, Jack Ruark, William “Bill” Ruark, Katherine Lyle, Helen Hughes, Elizabeth Williams and Doris Christie. He is survived by a son, Daniel Peterson Ruark of Nicholson, GA; sister, JoAnn Cooper of White Plains, GA; brother, Roger Ruark of Jasper, GA; a number of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.  
 
Graveside Services with military honors will be held on Wednesday, September 20, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Woodville Cemetery, 1191 Peachtree Avenue, Woodville, GA 30669.  The family will receive friends Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home.
