Eugene Guthrie Obituary

Eugene “Shorty” Guthrie, age 84, of Greensboro, GA died Tuesday, January 20, 2004 at Doctors Hospital of Augusta. A native of St. Johns County, FL, he was born on June 4, 1919 to the late James L. Alexander and Bertha Burlthor Guthrie, but had lived in Greene County since 1974. He served in the United States Army during World War II, the Korean Conflict and Vietnam. After twenty- five years he retired on June 1, 1962 as a Staff Sergeant. For several years he was a builder, then worked for Georgia Power at Wallace Dam before working at Passofino Charter Horse Club near Miami, FL. His last job was at Horizon Growers in Greensboro as a line potter. Survivors include his wife, June Sensing Guthrie of Greensboro, GA: a stepdaughter, Olivia Hedi Brooks of Greensboro, GA; a stepson, Joseph Daniel Brooks of Greensboro, GA; and other relatives and friends. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2004 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Bryant Miller officiating.
