Etta Mae Murden Andrews of the Robinson Community in Taliaferro County, Georgia died in her home on Saturday, December 05, 2009 at the age of 102. Miss Etta Mae, as she was known led a very diverse and interesting life. After attending the University of Georgia, she moved to New York City where she attended Columbia University. In 1928, she returned to central Georgia and was a teacher at several area schools. From 1950 to 1972, she was Postmaster at Robinson and operated a general store. For many years she was Treasurer of the Robinson Baptist Church. She was a member of the Taliaferro County Historical Society, the United Daughters of the Confederacy, and the Daughters of the American Revolution.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Wallace Andrews, Sr.; her parents, William Hugh Murden and Gertrude Cannon Murden; and a brother, William H. Murden, Jr.
She is survived by her son and daughter in law, Jim and Barbara Andrews of Savannah; two grandsons, Jay and Jeffery Andrews and their wives, Lee and Caryn; and six great grandchildren, Preston, Nolan, Duncan, Anna, Nicholas, and Grace Andrews. She is also survived by her niece, Barbara Murden Blaylock and family of Upland, California and many cousins.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 PM, Sunday, December 6, 2009 at the Callaway Funeral Home in Union Point, GA. Funeral services and interment will be at 2:00 PM on Monday, December 7, 2009 at the Robinson Baptist Church, 3230 Greensboro Road NW, Robinson, GA 30669 with Rev. Mark Yearwood officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Bobby Boswell, Steve Matthews, Al Matthews, Harry Cannon, Lee Yearwood and Kirby Beggs. Callaway Funeral Home, 208 N.
