Ethel Higdon Shevick

Ethel Higdon Shevick, age 83, of Greensboro, Georgia died Tuesday, August 16, 2011 at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta. She was born on April 20, 1928 in McDuffie County in Thomson, GA. She was the last of thirteen children of the late Adolphus Higdon and Cora Weaver Higdon. Ethel graduated from Greensboro High School in the class of 1945. Living in Greensboro most of her life, she lived awhile in Cape Coral, Florida where she was a receptionist for a funeral home from 1985 to 1989. She returned to Greensboro and in 1990 married Joe Shevick who preceded her in death. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro.

She is survived by sons, William Baxter Byce and wife Rhonda of Greensboro, GA and Terry Higdon Byce and wife Cynthia of Crofton, MD; grandchildren, Bill Byce and wife Brandi, Eric Byce and wife Terri, Jason Byce and wife Spencer, Courtney Byce, Lili Byce and Ming Byce; four great grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a son, Mills McNeel "Mac" Byce; and siblings, Maude Patrick, Ruby Lord, Bonnie Hozendolf, Bessie Haney, Harvey Higdon, Ed Higdon, Luther Higdon, Roy Higdon, Delmar Higdon, Nelson Higdon, Arthur Higdon and Grady Higdon.

Graveside services will be held Friday, August 19, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642, with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Carey Williams, Mark Higdon, Dennis Higdon, Leslie Higdon, Ceils Merritt, Ray Marchman, Prince Parrish and Raymond Jackson. The family requests that any memorials be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, P. O. Box 109, Siloam, GA 30665 or the First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA 30642.
