Emmett Lee Harper, Jr. of Greensboro, GA, died Monday, December 30, 2013 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.  He was 80 years old.  Born in Walton County on August 13, 1933, Emmett was the son of the late Emmett Lee Harper, Sr. and Lizzie Mae Harper.  After graduating from Walton County High School in 1951, Emmett attended the University of Georgia, where he received his bachelor's degree in Animal Husbandry and Agronomy and was a member of Alpha Gamma Rho fraternity.  After college he entered the Navy and served his country for 2 years.  During this time he was stationed in Key West, Florida, where he was an aviation machinist working on helicopters.  In 1957 Emmett returned to Walton County and began working  for the ASCS office.  He was later transferred to the Greene County office where Emmett became the County Office Manager.  He was later selected the Executive County Director for Greene and Taliaferro Counties.  During his working career, he was on the executive committee for Greene County, a member of the association of county employees, house rules committee, member of American Legion Post 44 and a member of Greene County Farm Bureau, where he was on the hay committee.  He was appointed Conservationist of the year in 1991.

On April 2, 1982 Emmett retired from the ASCS office after 36 years.  He loved the farm life he shared with his wife, the former Jean Ward of Greensboro,  GA, whom he married October 24, 1964.  He stayed busy all the time farming, gardening, working on tractors, hunting, and fishing.  He was a faithful member of the Siloam United Methodist Church.

In addition to his wife, he leaves his beloved family, four daughters, Melony Greene and husband Jon of Greensboro, GA, Dawn Graham and husband Chip of Lawrenceville, GA, Susanne Ivester and husband Jamie of Good Hope, GA and Jenifer Bragg and husband Josh of Greensboro, GA; nine grandchildren, Maggie, Tyler, and Harper Greene, Maddie, Sadie, Abigail, and Samuel Graham and Evan and Lizzie Ivester; one sister Mary Ward of Milledgeville, GA; brother-in-law, Bobby Ward and many nieces, nephews and friends.   In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his sisters Marguerite Bruker and Frances Russell.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January  4, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. at Siloam United Methodist Church,  Church Street, Siloam, GA with Rev. Bert Mathews officiating.  Interment will follow at the Siloam Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at Siloam United Methodist Church.  Serving as pallbearers are Jon Greene, Jamie Ivester, Chip Graham, Josh Bragg, Lewis O'Neal, and Hank Morgan.  Honorary pallbearers are members of his Sunday School Class: Don Channell, Gary Robinson, Johnnie Lewis, Lee Lord, Wayne Corry, Sidney Bryson, Jimmy Moore, Manor Ellenberg, and George Dolvin.  Memorials may be made to the Siloam United Methodist Church Building Fund, c/o Shirley Channell, 3871 Highway 15 South, Greensboro, GA 30642 or the Alzheimer’s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
