Emmett Kenneth Ghann, age 83, of Union Point, GA, died Monday, October 14, 2013 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point. Born in Washington, GA on April 24, 1930, he was the son of the late Willie Kenneth Ghann and Nannie B. Mathis Ghann. He graduated from Court Ground School in Washington, GA. On June 21, 1952, he married the former Joyce Tankersley of Union Point. During the Korean War, he served two years in Germany. Emmett was the owner and operator of Emmett Ghann Contracting. He was a member of Beaverdam Baptist Church and later Bethesda Baptist Church. He was an avid hunter and especially enjoyed hunting deer and rabbits. For many years they enjoyed camping and were members of Classic City Bulldog Camping Club.

Emmett is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Joyce Ghann of Union Point, GA; a daughter, Charlotte Ghann Yearwood and husband Ronnie of Union Point, GA; granddaughter, Amy Coleman and husband James of White Plains, GA; grandson, Ryan Yearwood of Union Point, GA; a sister, Fannie Fowler of Dallas, GA; a brother, Rev. Thomas Ghann and his wife Shirley of Madison, GA; two great grandchildren, Sumner Coleman and Emma Lynn Coleman; and a number of other relatives and friends. In addition to his parents, Emmett was preceded in death by a sister, Susan Ella Combs.

Funeral Services will be held, Wednesday, October 16, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Dr. Terry Duvall, Rev. Bruce Lovin and Rev Wayne Ghann officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Ryan Yearwood, James Coleman, Emma Lynn Coleman, Sumner Coleman, Amy Coleman, Gerald Tankersley, Russell Tankersley and Wayne Ghann. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday night at Callaway Funeral Home.
