Emily Josephine Boswell Lindsey, age 87, of Greensboro, GA who was affectionately known as "Ma Jo" died Saturday, November 29, 2003 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A native of Greene county, she was born July 27, 1916 to the late Lunceford Andrew Boswell and Willie Jessie Sandra Maddox Boswell. She attended Oakland School, Penfield School and Greensboro High School and was a member of Penfield Presbyterian Church. In 1954 she started working at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital and retired in 1974 after 20 years as a lab technician.
Survivors include three daughters, Ann L. Smith and husband Richard, Christine L. West and husband Roger and Roberta L. Smith, all of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Gene Lindsey and wife Gail of Union Point, GA and Richard Lindsey and wife Lynda of Oconee, GA; a son-in-law, Robert Smith of Greensboro, GA; three sisters, Roberta Hulsey and husband Jake of Duluth, GA; Luncine Caldwell of Canton, GA and Billie Crews and husband Alvin of Carrollton, GA; fourteen grandchildren, Leanne Moncrief and husband Lane, Debra Smith, Cindy Edmonds and husband Jimmy Jr., Lane Smith and wife Robin, Dede Smith, Ken West and wife Elaine, Chris West, Robbie Edmonds and husband Jimmy III, Martin Smith and wife Melanie, Kathi Smoker and husband Brian, Donna Edwards and husband Benjie, Dee Lindsey and wife Susan, Keith Lindsey and wife Beth, Kim Brantley and husband Ronnie; twenty-two great grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elisha Jonfair Lindsey; a daughter, Emily Elizabeth Lindsey Smith; son-in-law, Reese Smith; and a great-grandson, Rick McKinley.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, December 2, 2003 at 2:00 p.m. at Penfield Presbyterian Church with Rev. Reggie Haslett and Rev. Gary Nicholas officiating. Burial will follow at Penfield Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are grandsons: Keith Lindsey, Dee Lindsey, Lane Smith, Martin Smith, Chris West and Ken West. The family requests that any memorials be made to Penfield Presbyterian Church, c/o Harold Finch, 1621 E. Broad Street, Greensboro, Georgia 30642 or Liberty United Methodist Church c/o Ann Smith, 2491 Shiloh Road, Greensboro, Georgia 30642.
