Elsie Salter Obituary

Elsie Mae Gunn Salter of Crawfordville, GA, died at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point on Sunday, March 17, 2013 at the age of 88. Born in Crawfordville, GA on December 22, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Fortson Leroy Gunn and Eva Mae Herndon Gunn. After graduating from Alexander Stephens Institute, she moved to Atlanta to live with her aunt and worked at Sears. When she married W. Cary Salter, his job took them to Florida where she worked for Boeing at Cape Kennedy. They returned to Crawfordville in 1976 and she went to work as a seamstress for Royal Manufacturing in Washington, GA. She enjoyed reading and cooking, but the most important thing to her was taking care of her family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, W. Cary Salter on August 7, 2006; and siblings, Frank Gunn, Milton Gunn, Samuel Gunn and Rebecca Gunn. Mrs. Salter is survived by three daughters, Jane Mayo and husband Tim of White Plains, GA; Joyce Johnson and husband Jim of Nokomis, FL and Linda Mink and husband Bob of McCalla, AL; a son, Cary Salter and wife Betty of Rockledge, FL; six grandchildren; ten great grandchildren and a number of other relatives.

The family will receive friends Thursday night, March 21, 2013, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. The family will have a private burial at Crawfordville Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that any memorials be made to the Alzheimer''s Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or the Wounded Warriors Project, 3343 Peachtree Road, NE #M20, Atlanta, GA 30326.
