Edwin Garnett “Jack” Walker, age 86, of the Bethany Community of Greene County, died Saturday, March 25, 2006 at his residence. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born on May 2, 1919 to the late Edwin Turner Walker and Mary Ethel Ellenberg Walker. He attended Meadowcrest School and Greensboro High School. In World War II he served in the United States Army. During his working career he fired the boiler for Chipman Union in Union Point, delivered coal to residences and was a poultry farmer. Jack was a member of Walker United Methodist Church and the Chappell Lodge #511 in Union Point, GA. He joined the Masons in November of 1955 and received his 50 year pin in 2006.
He is survived by his wife, Cora King Walker of the Bethany Community; a daughter, June W. Huff of Madison, GA; a son, James E. “Jim” Walker and wife Chris of the Bethany Community; four sisters, Ellene Hunt of Greensboro, GA, Hilda Epstein and husband Steve of Atlanta, GA, Doris Kenny and husband Joe of Augusta, GA and Betty Jean Berryman and husband Bill of Greensboro, GA; a brother Deleon Walker and wife Elizabeth of Greensboro, GA; three grandchildren, James Walker, Michael Walker and Pamela Mabry; seven great grandchildren, Drew Mabry, Luke Mabry, Cristen Walker, Breanna Walker, Hannah Walker, Emma Grace Walker and Michael Jack Walker; and a number of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Richard Walker, Edna Walker and Faye Travis.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Reggie Haslett and Rev. Farrett Boswell officiating. Interment services will follow at Walker Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are James E. Walker Jr., Michael Walker, James Taylor, Herbert Rhodes, J. R. Rhodes and Terry Mabry. Honorary pallbearers are members of Chappell Lodge #511 of Union Point, GA. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m to 9:00 p.m. Monday night at the funeral home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
