Edna Askew Obituary

Edna Patrick Askew, age 90, of Greensboro, GA died Tuesday, April 13, 2010 at Putnam General Hospital in Eatonton, GA. Born in Putnam County on April 17, 1919, she was the daughter of the late Charles Lucious Patrick and Essie Black Patrick. She attended Phoenix Community School in Putnam County and married Charles Askew on October 24, 1942. For a while she worked in the lunchroom at school and she also helped her husband on the dairy farm. She was a member of Walker United Methodist Church of Greensboro. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers and fishing.

Mrs. Askew was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wover Askew in April of 2005; a son, Charles Edward Askew in December of 1974; a granddaughter, Crystal Marie Thigpen in April of 1991; and a brother, Willie Bruce. She is survived by two daughters, Brenda Askew of Greensboro, GA and Christine Hallman of Greensboro, GA; two sons, Gene Askew and wife Nita of Eatonton, GA and Mike Askew of Greensboro, GA; a sister, Mary Lankford of Eatonton, GA; two brothers, Marvin Patrick of Madison, GA and C. L. Bruce of Brunswick, GA; grandchildren, Shannon Askew Johnson, Trisha Michelle Shelnutt, Jonathan Askew, Amy Hallman, Connie Cluff, Tina Sisson, Butch Ellis and Melissa Sullivan; eleven great grandchildren; two great, great grandchildren; and many other relatives and friends.

Graveside Services will be held on Friday, April 16, 2010 at 3:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Jonathan Askew, Jimmy Moore, Allen Askew, Horace Askew, Ray Duvall and Wayne Sisson. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday night at the funeral home.
