Edna Alford Obituary

Edna Ruth Sidwell Nichols Alford, age 81, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Monday, February 20, 2012 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab. Mrs. Edna was born October 7, 1930, in the Apalachee Community of Morgan County to the late Thompson Sidwell and Maggie Beal Sidwell. She graduated from Madison High School and on July 29, 1950 she married Charles Henry Nichols. Throughout high school she worked at the Madison Theater and after marriage she became a homemaker. She later worked for the Duvall Livestock Market, West Department Store and Horizon Growers in Greensboro. She retired as a teller at The Bank of Greensboro which later became BB&T. After retirement she enjoyed working at Farmers Feed and Seed selling flowers. Mrs. Edna was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School, sang in the choir and was Church Clerk for fifty years. She also sang in the community choir. She was an exceptional cook, loved to sew and her passion was growing flowers and vegetables. She enjoyed her family and especially watching her children and grandchildren playing sports of all kinds.

She is survived by her husband, Arnold Alford; three sons, Charles Allen Nichols, Phillip Kevin Nichols and wife Wilma and Randall Stuart Nichols and wife Susan all of Greensboro, GA; step son, Wendell Lang Alford and wife Denise of Easley, SC; stepdaughters, Lynn Alford Rampey and husband Tommy and Kathy Alford Roberts; a sister, Mary Evelyn S. Haulk of Social Circle, GA; and brothers, William Charles (Bill) Sidwell and wife Donna of Ocoee, FL and Thompson Eugene (Sonny) Sidwell of Madison, GA; grandchildren, Andrea Nichols Miller and husband Randy, Claire Nichols Sanders and husband Gary, Michael Allen Nichols, Adam Seth Nichols and wife Brandy, Mary Beth Nichols, Alecia Nichols Martin and husband Nathan, Rebecca Nichols Adkins and husband Ben, Jeremy Nichols and wife Christi; step grandchildren, Kyle Rampey, Heather Hood, Travis Jones, Brad Roberts, Amanda Roberts and Hope Akin; great grandchildren, Joe and Sam Miller, Jackson Sanders and Samantha, Jordan and Catelyn Nichols, step great grandchildren, Hunter and Hannah Hood and Madison, Alex and Samantha Harris. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Charles Henry Nichols on November 16, 2001 and a step daughter, Kaye Alford Jones.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church with Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery, Macedonia Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 (Macedonia Community). Serving as pallbearers are Scott Baynes, David Price, Dewitt Price, Barry Churchwell, Tommy Rampey, Wendell Alford, Billy Copelan and Danny Edmonds. Honorary pallbearers are Dustin Churchwell Lewis Duvall, Joe Vaughn, R. A. Moore and James Price. The family requests that any memorials be made to Macedonia Baptist Church, c/o R. A. Moore, 2721 Macedonia Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 or to Gideons International, P O Box 214, Madison, GA 30650.
