Edith Davis Sherrer

Edith Mae Davis Sherrer, age 98, of Union Point, GA, died Monday, December 5, 2011 at Greene Point Healthcare and Rehab. A native of Greene County, Mrs. Sherrer was born October 27, 1913, the daughter of the late Grover Cleveland Davis and Ella May O''Neal Davis. As a child she grew up and attended school in Siloam. She was a knitter for Union Manufacturing in Union Point. As long as health permitted she was an active and the oldest living member of Bethesda Baptist Church. Her family and church were very important in her life and she was a wonderful mother and grandmother.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Woody Hinton Sherrer in January of 1990; a granddaughter, Barbara Haralson; and all of her siblings. She is survived by a daughter, Vivian Swann and husband Billy of Union Point, GA; a son, Neal Sherrer and wife Cary of Jonesboro, GA; grandchildren, Tommy Swann and wife Marsha, Tammy Kirby and husband Scott, Lisa Thomas and husband Bill; great grandchildren, Jennifer Harwell, Holly Roland and husband Brent, Brittany Kirby, Brooke Kirby, Adam Cason and wife Ashlea, Eric Pace and Taylor Pickens; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethesda Baptist Church, 1560 Bethesda Church Road, Union Point, GA 30669 with Rev. Lem Clark and Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Greg Thompson, Greg Brown, Gene Lindsey, Scott Kirby, Tony Fowler and Franklin Combs. Honorary pallbearers are Harold Finch, Mary Pittman and Beth Brown. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at Callaway Funeral Home.
