Dr. Charles Allen Stewart, Jr.
 
Dr. Charles Allen Stewart, Jr. of Greensboro, Georgia formerly of San Antonio, Texas, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at Pruitthealth Athens Heritage in Athens at the age of 89. Dr. Stewart was born in Memphis, Tennessee on March 20, 1925 to the late Charles Allen Stewart, Sr. and Virgie Cox Stewart. He grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, where he graduated from Central High School and Millsaps College. He earned his Masters degree from the University of Mississippi and a Doctorate’s degree from the University of Texas where he was a member of Phi Beta Kappa.  He proudly served his country in the United States Army with rank of Lieutenant Colonel, receiving an honorable discharge in 1972.  He began his Army career with the 10th Mountain Division of the Ski Troops. During his thirty year career, he served in World War II and spent two tour of duties in Vietnam receiving the Bronze Star and numerous other medals and honors. On January 6, 1946, he married the former Rosalyn Barron and this January they celebrated their sixty-ninth wedding anniversary.  After living in San Antonio, Texas since 1964 they recently moved to Greensboro to live with their daughter and her family. Allen was an active and faithful member of Alamo Heights United Methodist Church in San Antonio where he taught Sunday School for many years. He was a proud member of the Optimist Club.  Earlier he enjoyed running every day with a group of his friends and was an avid tennis player.  
 
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two daughters, Deborah Allyn Stewart and Martha Gayle Stewart; and a sister, Barbara Stewart Fields. He is survived by his wife, Rosalyn Barron Stewart, of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Cheryl Stewart Lenenski and husband Myron of Greensboro, GA; a brother, Mack C. Stewart and wife Diana; two grandchildren, Claire Monahan and husband James, and Ross Lenenski; great granddaughter, Clara Rose Monahan; a number of other relatives; and many friends.
 
A Graveside Service will be held Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at Sunset Memorial Park, 1701 Austin Highway, San Antonio, Texas 78218 with Rev. Donna Strieb officiating. The family requests any memorials be made to Alamo Heights United Methodist Church, 825 East Basse Road, San Antonio, TX 78209.
