Dorothy Mize Stewart

Dorothy Mize Stewart of Greensboro, Georgia, died on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at St. Mary’s Hospice House in Watkinsville, GA.  She was 87.  Dorothy was born in Greene County on June 7, 1929. She was next to the youngest of seven children born to the late Ernest Marlow Mize and Sallie Ayers Mize.  In 1948 she graduated from Greensboro High School and married John Darden Stewart on April 26, 1960 in McCormick, SC.  For many years Mrs. Stewart was the pastor for Shiloh Baptist Church in Greensboro, where she was a member all her life.  She was a homemaker who enjoyed cooking, decorating, crafts and loved being around her family.  She also enjoyed her Bible study and singing.
 
In addition to her husband, John Darden Stewart who died in April of 2005, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Dona Beth Stewart in November of 1960; and all of her siblings, Walt Mize, Eula Mae Mize Moody, Willie Lee Mize, Mary Alice Mize McFadden, Henry Harold Mize and Donald Estes Mize.  She is survived by a daughter, Rhonda Stewart Thomas and her husband Dave of Greensboro, GA and a granddaughter, Meredith Channell and her husband Keith of Milledgeville; three great grandchildren, Eli, Trent and Dalton Channell; other relatives and friends.

A Funeral Service will be held at McCommons Chapel on Saturday, June 11, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Robert Robinson officiating.  Interment will follow in the Greensboro City Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642.  Serving as pallbearers are Tobey Dye, Donald Moody, Seth Channell, Chris Johnson, Dale Thomas, and Ross McCommons.  The family will receive friends Friday from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.   McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
