Dorothy Harper Sorrow
Dorothy Harper Sorrow, age 80, of Lexington, GA, died Sunday, June 4, 2006 at the University Nursing and Rehab Center in Athens. A lifelong resident of Oglethorpe County, she was born April 7, 1926 to the late Joe Harper and Julia Drake Harper. During World War II she worked in the office at the shipyard in Brunswick. Later she was a sales associate at Davisons in Athens and then retired to come home and take care of her ailing parents.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Clarence Churchwell and Harvey Sorrow; a sister, Mildred Williford; and five brothers, Julius Harper, Miles Harper, Joel Harper, Russell Harper and W. B. Harper. She is survived by a son, Barry Gene Churchwell and wife Teresa of Maxeys, GA; a sister, Sallie Mae Burroughs of Lexington, GA; a grandson, Dustin Churchwell and wife Mandy of the Macedonia Community in Greene County; a granddaughter, Nancie C. Sanders and husband Charlie of the Macedonia Community in Greene County; two great grandchildren, Kyle Churchwell and Brooke Sanders; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, June 6, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the Salem Baptist Church Cemetery in Lexington with Rev. Joel Sorrow officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Dustin Churchwell, Charlie Sanders, R. A. Moore, Freddy Gilbert, W. A. "Billy" Bryant and Carey Marable.
