Dorothy Webb Smith

Dorothy Webb “Dot” Smith, 87, of Greensboro, Georgia died on Monday, February 28, 2011 at Saint Joseph’s At East Georgia Hospital. A native of Greene County, she was born on August 13, 1923 to the late Preston Calhoun Webb and Ethel Marjorie Drake Webb. She graduated from Greensboro High School, married L. D. Smith and they settled in the Veazey Community. She worked for Union Manufacturing in Union Point as a looper for eighteen years and for Greensboro Manufacturing in Greensboro for seven years. She was a longtime member of Liberty United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, L. D. Smith and siblings, Ester Edwards, Hubert Webb, Ellen Harwell, Etta Mae Winslett, Lee Webb, Olin Webb, John Berry Webb and Ernest Webb. She is survived by a number of nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, March 2, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at the Liberty United Methodist Church, 3091 Liberty Church Road, White Plains, GA 30678 with the Rev. Edward A. Swehla officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Doug Webb, Marty Dowdy, P. C. Webb, Steve Webb, Jimmy Moore and Bobby Lewis Gresham. Honorary pallbearers are Ashley Edwards, Robert Dowdy, Richard Smith, David Strickland, Adrian Rimes and Ralph Simons. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Liberty United Methodist Church Youth Group, c/o Ann Smith, 2491 Shiloh Road, Greensboro, GA 30642.
