In 1936, Dorothy married Carl Day Cook and resided in San Diego, CA while Carl was in the Navy. During this time they had twin daughters, Doris and Dorothy Lou. In addition, Dorothy taught Confectionary Arts and Fine Dining Protocol at Seattle Community College.

After moving to Georgia, she lived at the Magnolia Estates in Bogart, where she gave daily concerts to everyone by playing the organ. She moved to Willow Run in 2002 and stayed there for three years.
