Dorothy Mann Channell, age 83, of Greensboro, GA, died Monday, May 8, 2006 at her home. Born in Greene County on February 24, 1923 she was the daughter of the late Alvin Theo Mann and Mary Sue Wagnon Mann. She attended school in Siloam and graduated from Greensboro High School in 1940. She then attended Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville where she earned a BA Degree and later received a Masters in Math Education from the University of Georgia in Athens. In 1948 she married James W. "Duck" Channell of Greensboro, GA and they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June of 1998. Mrs. Channell taught a combined 30 years at Butts County, Dalton High School and Greene County High School and received the honor of Star Teacher twice. Growing up she was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church in Siloam and later a member of the First Presbyterian Church USA of Greensboro where she served as youth advisor and elder of Presbyterian Church USA. She was a member of the Garden Club, Woman''s Club, AARP, Boswell Memorial Hospital Auxiliary and GAE.
Surviving family members are her husband, James W. "Duck" Channell of Greensboro, GA; a son W. Dene Channell and wife Kathryn of Greensboro, GA; two grandsons, Leighton Channell and fiancee, Amber Austin of Greensboro, GA and Logan Channell of Greensboro, GA; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a brother Raleigh Mann.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, May 11, 2006, at 11:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro with the Rev. Dr. Ford G''Segner and the Rev. Dr. James A. Perkins officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery in Greensboro. Serving as pallbearers are James Strickland, Barry Credille, Johnny Satterfield, Mickey Channell, Andrew Boswell and Jimmy Channell. Honorary pallbearers are the Elders and Deacons of Bethany Presbyterian Church and the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro, Robert Simpson, JoAnn Bradley, Joyce Dysart, Rebecca Epps, Betty Jo Evans, Tony Ferland, Carole Hayden, Sam Marshall, Chris Penna and Peyton Rardin. The family requests that any memorials be made to Presbyterian Homes of Georgia, 3565 Piedmont Road, Bldg. 2, Suite 107, Atlanta, GA 30305.
