Dorothy Barnes Obituary

Dorothy Mae Amos Barnes, 84, of Decatur, Georgia, died on Wednesday, September 18, 2013 at her home. Born in White Plains, Georgia, on December 24, 1928, she was the daughter of the late James Henry Amos and Lucy Permelia Stewart Amos. She grew up and attended school in White Plains, but most of her adult life was spent around Atlanta. She married Jack Barnes who preceded her in death. She later married Archer Lamar West and lived in Sparta, GA for a while then moved back to Decatur. Dorothy worked for DeKalb Cable for seventeen years as the receptionist and switchboard operator. She was a member of White Plains Baptist Church and later Heritage Hills Baptist and Lilburn Christian Church. Dorothy enjoyed family, cooking, cleaning, reading, word search, gospel and country music, but especially spending time with her granddaughter Hannah Marie. Over the years she shared her home with many family members and friends.

In addition to her husband, Jack Barnes, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Jessie Belvin Amos, Clarence Amos, Elsie Barnes, Edith Amos, Ethel Amos and James "Sonny" Amos. She is survived by two daughters, Madelene Barnes Morris and husband Wayne of Roswell, GA and Brenda Barnes Glass and husband Bill of Lilburn, GA; granddaughter, Hannah Marie Glass; step-son, Michael L. West and wife Linda; step-daughter, Nancy Simeonsson and husband Rune''; step grandchildren, Matt West and wife Macinda, Laura Wise and husband John, Joe Simeonsson and wife Robin and Kristina McGee and husband Patrick; great step grandchildren, Ethan and Caden West, Jared and Ellen Wise, Allie and Nicole Simeonsson and Sarah, Ruth and Andrew McGee; a sister, Marjorie Robinson of Union Point, GA; and many other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, September 22, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at White Plains Baptist Church, 1020 Main Street East, White Plains, GA 30678 with Rev. Dennis Garner officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Greg Shupe, Steven Moore, Dennis Shaffer, Ryan Amos, Frank Moore and Mike West.
