Doris O’Neil Mitchell Smith
Doris O’Neil Mitchell Smith, age 92, of Siloam, GA, died Tuesday, June 28, 2016 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point. Born on January 25, 1924 in Maxeys, GA, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Colie Mitchell and Eleanor Lunceford Mitchell. She attended school in Maxeys and Woodville and graduated from Union Point High School. She married Boyce Hanson Smith and they made their home in Siloam. During her working career she worked for Liquid Carbonic in Atlanta and Union Point Manufacturing which became Chipman Union. She also worked for Greensboro Lumber Company and later retired from Thomas Textile in Union Point as an inspector. Mrs. Smith was a member of Siloam United Methodist Church. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed travelling, reading and talking with friends. She was also very fond of her two cats, Benjie and Deedee.
Survivors include her daughter, Patricia Ann Heath and husband Don of Union Point, GA; step-daughter, Elaine Smith Partain of Madison, GA; four step-grandchildren; several step great grandchildren; other relatives and many friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Boyce Hanson Smith; step-son, Gary H. Smith; step son-in-law, Lindsey Partain; and brother, William Mitchell.
Funeral Services will be held, Thursday, June 30, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at the Siloam United Methodist Church, 111 Church Street, Siloam, GA 30665 with Rev. Wayne Usry officiating. Interment will follow in the Siloam Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home. Serving as pallbearers are Terry O’Neal, Terry Watkins, Wayne Corry, John Lord, Wayne Jackson and Peanut O’Neal.
