Donald Joseph Bird, age 82, of Greensboro, GA, formerly of the Villages of Florida before moving to Georgia, died on Monday, February 15, 2016 at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.  Born September 26, 1933 in Dunkirk, NY, he was the son of the late Joseph Leo Bird and Myrtle Weimer Bird.  Donald graduated from Colstock High School in Titusville, PA, where he excelled in sports, especially football as a running back and track.  He then attended Michigan State University.  Donald served his country in the United States Marine Corp during the Korean Conflict.  On June 9, 1954, he married his high school sweetheart, the former Florence Mary McGreevy.  Donald worked for Alcoa Building Products as Sales Manager.  The things he enjoyed most were using his iPad, discussing politics and watching sports.
 
In addition to his wife of nearly 62 years, Florence Bird of Greensboro, GA; he is survived by his seven children, Sue Artz, Joseph Bird (Gloria), Donald Bird, Jr., Patricia Kral (Mark), Billy Bird (Deborah), Jackie Smith (Scott) and Jim Bird; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; and a number of other relatives and friends.   

A Memorial Service, with military honors, will be held Thursday, February 18, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 2617 Vinson Highway, Milledgeville, GA 31061 with Rev. Ronald Schornhorst officiating.  The family requests that any donations be made to the charity of your choice.  McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
