Don Lane Steele
Don Lane Steele of Union Point, GA, died Saturday, June 21, 2014 at his residence at the age of 52 after a long courageous battle with ALS. A lifelong resident of Greene County, Don was the son of Joel Steele and the late Yvonne Keith Steele. He was born on May 22, 1962 in Greensboro. He graduated from Greene County High School and on March 16, 1984 married Carol Davis. He worked as an electrician for IBEW 613 from 1997 until 2005 and then worked for Greensboro Housing Authority. He was a member of Grace Fellowship in Greensboro and also attended First Baptist Church in Union Point. For seven years he volunteered for the Union Point Volunteer Fire Department. Don enjoyed fishing, hunting and watching cooking and remodeling shows on TV.
In addition to his wife of thirty years, Carol Davis Steele of Union Point, GA and his father, Joel Steele of Bairdstown, he is survived by his children Rachel McKinney and husband Wallace of Gainesville, GA, Stephen Chick of Union Point, GA, Ashley Steele and husband David Brown of Eatonton, GA and Holly Steele of Union Point, GA; sister, Lynn Taylor; brother, Tracy Steele and wife Leanne; four grandchildren, Jorden, Cody and Leyla McKinney and Kayleigh Brown; other relatives and many friends. He was preceded in death by two grandchildren who died as infants.
Funeral Services will be held, Monday, June 23, 2014 at 1:00 p. m. at McCommons Chapel in Greensboro with Rev. Marc Lhowe and Rev. Rick Jenovese officiating. Interment will follow in the Bairds Baptist Church Cemetery, 42 Bairdstown Loop, Union Point, GA 30669. The family will receive friends at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sunday. Serving as pallbearers are Tracy Davis, Anthony Beard, Daniel Waters, Josh Waters, Brandon Hermsmier and Jon Keller.
