David Wayne Price
David Wayne Price, age 80, of the Macedonia Community, died on November 19, 2019, at Piedmont Athens Regional. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born at home on October 4, 1939, delivered by a midwife. The last to be born at home, David lived through eight decades of ever-changing American history. He was an exemplary example of the best of rural America, acting as a good steward to the land, living life in rhythm with the earth and the cycles of nature. David graduated from Greensboro High School in 1959, and then proudly served his country in the United States Navy. After serving for four years, David attended the National School of Meat Cutting in Toledo, Ohio. He worked as a meat cutter in Michigan before returning to his native Georgia where he worked for Big Star and Grand Union before retiring. He met Joan Lectka in January of 1980; they married on February 12, 1982. After retiring as a meat cutter, he and Joan devoted full time to the training consultant business they began on a part-time basis in 1986. He was a member of Amvets and the United Food and Commercial Workers Union.
David enjoyed being outside, either watching his garden grow and sharing its bounty or maintaining the three miles of walking trails he designed for his wife and named after his grandchildren. Grandma’s Scenic Highway, as it is fondly referred to by the entire family, became an important part of the joy experienced by friends and family when they visited the farm. He especially loved taking his grandchildren for rides on his four-wheeler. He also loved watching his grandchildren catch a fish at the pond he built for that very purpose.
In addition to his wife of thirty-seven years, Joan Lectka Price of the Macedonia Community, he is survived by his daughter, Romesa Grounsell; son Jeffery Wayne Price (Kristin); seven grandchildren, a great grandchild; sisters, Joann Huff (Russell) and Carolyn Marie Dawson; brothers, Harvey Lee Price (Darlene) and Dewitt Price (Leila); stepson, Anthony Lionakis; and special cousin, Paul Price (Kirsten); many other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Hollis Bradley, Doris Van Eck, James Price, Douglas Price, Melvin Price and an infant brother.
