Cornelia Poss Copelan, age 84, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, December 29, 2007 at Willow Run Retirement Home. Born in Wilkes County on April 30, 1923 she was the daughter of the late James Brantley Poss and Loinda Belle Rice Poss. In 1940 she graduated from Union Point High School. Cornelia was the registrar and custodian for the vital records at the Greene County Health Department for many years. She was a member of Walker United Methodist Church and enjoyed the Bridge Club.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Thomas Copelan, Sr., in November of 1991; brother Raymond L. Poss; sisters, Opie Beer, Gordie Raley, Hazel Sorrow, Lauree Powers and Joslyn Cronic; and a grandson, Jason Thomas Copelan. She is survived by two sons, Jesse T. Copelan, Jr. and wife Kaye of Eatonton, GA and Raymond D. "Ray" Copelan and wife Martha of Greensboro, GA; sister, Leila P. Mapp of Watkinsville, GA; brother, M. C. Poss and wife Bobbie of Martinez, GA; grandson, Josh Copelan and wife Adrianne of Greensboro, GA; granddaughter, Stacey C. Richardson and husband Travis of Greensboro, GA; great granddaughter, Copelan Richardson; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Graveside Services will be held on Monday, December 31, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. at Greenview Cemetery with Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Serving as pallbearers will be the nephews and great nephews. The family requests that any memorials be made to Nathanael Greene Academy, P. O. Box 109, Siloam, GA 30665.
