Cora King Walker
Cora King Walker, age 96, of the Bethany Community of Greene County, died Saturday, February 7, 2015 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab in Union Point. A lifelong resident of Siloam, Mrs. Cora was born October 31, 1918 to the late James Thomas King and Corry Lucille Rhodes King. She was born in the family home place in the Bethany Community where she grew up and attended school at Bethany and Siloam. For over twenty-five years she worked for Union Manufacturing Company in Union Point. After leaving Union Manufacturing, she helped her husband, Jack Walker, on the family farm. Mrs. Cora was a member of Bethany Presbyterian Church. She loved her family and had a passion for taking care of animals of all kinds.
She is survived by her son and his wife James Edwin “Jim” Walker and Chris of the Bethany Community; daughter, June Walker Huff of Madison, GA; three grandchildren, Jimmy Walker and his wife Cindy, Michael Walker and his wife Kelly and Pamela Mabry and her husband Terry; eight great grandchildren, Drew Mabry, Luke Mabry, Cristen Walker, Breanna Walker, Hannah Walker, Emma Grace Walker, Michael Jack Walker, and Wyatt Owen Walker; and many friends. In addition to her husband, Edwin Garnett “Jack” Walker, who preceded her in death in 2006, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Lucille King at the age of six months.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, February 10, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Reggie Haslett and Rev. Bruce Lovin officiating. Interment will follow in Walker United Methodist Church Cemetery, 2730 Walker Church Road, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Michael Walker, Jimmy Walker, Terry Mabry, Drew Mabry, Luke Mabry, and Joe Simpson. The family requests that any memorials be made to Bethany Presbyterian Church, c/o Dixie Simpson, 3061 Siloam Veazey Road, Greensboro, GA 30642. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home. McCommons Funeral Home, 109 W.
