Colin Steed Stewart

Colin Steed Stewart, 87, of Crawfordville, GA died Monday morning, October 6, 2008. Born in Taliaferro, County on June 10, 1921 he was the son of the late Geneva Bristol Stewart and Addie Mae McKinley Stewart. Colin was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his B.S. degree in Agricultural and Animal Husbandry in 1947. While attending the University of Georgia, he was Agricultural Club president, Ag Council president, Aghon president, Saddle and Sirloin Club president and vice-president and Student Council member. He was also a member of numerous organizations such as the Veteran''s Organization Council; 4-H Club, Dairy Science Club, American Legion parliamentarian, Gridiron Club, Student Relations Committee and G.O.P. He worked with Soil Conservation Service and construction service. Mr. Stewart received a honorable discharge from the Army Air Force after fifteen months of service. After thirty-five years he retired from Pennington Grain and Seed. He was an active member of Crawfordville Baptist Church where he served as a deacon.

Colin is survived by his wife, Sybil Kenny Stewart of the home, along with his children, Carol Bird (Kitch) of Forsyth, GA, Charles Stewart (Paula) of Crawfordville, GA, Coleen Gardner (Joe) of Alpharetta, GA and Chip Stewart (Lori) of Milledgeville, GA; nine grandchildren, Beth Sneed, Saralyn Fulcher, Leila Holbrook, Caroline Stewart, Kathleen Stewart, Joseph Gardner, Benjamin Gardner, Chris Stewart and Catie Stewart; four great grandchildren, Logan Sneed, Hunter Sneed, Dayton Sneed and Carson Sneed; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by a sister, Corinth Ruehle.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, October 8, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. at Crawfordville Baptist Church with Rev. John Autry and Rev. Jack Key officiating. Mr. Stewart will lie in state at the church from 1:00 p.m. until time for the service. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Chris Stewart, Joseph Gardner, Benjamin Gardner, David Ruehle, Andy Holbrook, Michael Fulcher, Wayne Williams and Bobby Moore.
