Clinton Jefferson “C. J.” Stewart, Jr., age 76, of White Plains, GA, died Wednesday, January 25, 2006 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Greene County he was born on March 23, 1929 to the late Clinton Jefferson Stewart, Sr. and Dorothy Ward Stewart. When he was young he helped with the family dairy and worked for I Block and Weinstein’s. Later he drove a gas truck with Travis Ward, APAC and Boswell Oil Company. In his later years he worked at Greensboro Lumber Company sharpening saws and J. B. Dolvin’s Bay Service Station. He was a member of White Plains Baptist Church. Mr. Stewart is survived by his wife, Laura Jeanne Harper Stewart, of White Plains, GA; two daughters, Tanya Lloyd and husband Doug of Cumming, GA, Regina Echols and husband Norman of Jacksonville, FL; stepdaughter, Libby Chapman of Union Point, GA; two sons, Mark Stewart and wife Kay of Woodbine, GA, Kenneth Stewart and wife Cindy of White Plains, GA; two stepsons, George Stapleton and wife Janet of Blairsville, GA and Edward Stapleton and wife Georgianne of Lakeland, FL; three sisters, Betty Ruth Grizzard and husband Thurman of Thomaston, GA, Dorothy Lou Rabun and husband Sam of Louisville, GA and Vivian Ledford and husband J. D. of Young Harris, GA; a brother, Wilburn Stewart and wife Myra of White Plains, GA; eighteen grandchildren and step grandchildren, Brian Stewart, Jeremy Stewart, Erin Atkinson, Craig Stewart, Adrianna Stewart, Jackson Stewart, Richard Lloyd, Stephen Lloyd, Brent Stewart, Adriane Echols, Ashley Stone, Norman Echols III, Brandon Stapleton, Blair Stapleton, Amanda Bryan, Nick Stapleton, Lauren Chapman, and Lindsey Chapman; nine great grandchildren and step great grandchildren, Katelyn Stewart, Austin Stewart, Hanna Atkinson, Sarah Atkinson, Haylee Lloyd, Jacob Lloyd, Jeffery Bryan, Sydney Bryan and Anthony Echols; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mary Sue Jackson Stewart in June of 1995. Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at the White Plains Baptist Church with Rev. Curtiss Moore officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are his grandsons, Brian Stewart, Jeremy Stewart, Craig Stewart, Brent Stewart, Trey Echols, Richard Lloyd, Stephen Lloyd, Brandon Stapleton and Nicholas Stapleton. Any memorials may be made to the White Plains Baptist Church, P. O. Box 38, White Plains, GA 30678. The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home.
