Claude Walker Marchman, Sr., age 86, of Greensboro, GA died Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at Providence Health Care in Sparta. A native of Greene County, he was born in White Plains on November 23, 1917 to the late James Madison Marchman and Eliza Eskew Marchman. He was raised around White Plains and was of the Methodist Faith. During World War II, he served in the United States Army in the 186th Infantry, Company H. He worked for Ralston Purina Chicken Houses in the Industrial Park and later retired as a poultry and dairy farmer.
He is survived by a daughter, Cathy Swann and husband Clinton of Arnoldsville, GA; a stepdaughter, Shirley Taylor of Thompson, GA; a son, Claude Marchman Jr and wife Janie of Greensboro, GA; a stepson, Thad Walker Sr. and wife Joyce of Milledgeville, GA; a sister, Margaret Hulsey Simmons of Augusta, GA; seven granddaughters, Jennifer Nichols and husband Andy, Sharon Padgett and husband J. B., Lynn Darity and husband Harold, Judy Hudson and husband Bobby, Tina Eversole and husband George and Tonja Young and husband David and Julie Baker; two grandsons, Daniel Swann and Thad Walker Jr.; twelve great grandchildren; and nine great great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Dingler Marchman; and a grandson, Tyler Swann
Graveside services will be held Thursday, February 19, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. at Walker United Methodist Church Cemetery with Rev. Ferris Hardin officiating. Serving as pallbearers are Dan Swann, Thad Walker Jr., J. B. Padgett, Andy Nichols and Clinton Swann. The family requests that memorials be made to the charity of your choice.
