Clarence Edward Stephens, Sr., age 72, of Eatonton, GA died Wednesday, August 18, 2010 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle. Born in Logan, West Virginia on October 7, 1937, he was the son of the late Clarence Jefferson Stephens and Orpha Ossetta Perry Stephens. He was a 1955 graduate of Logan County High School in West Virginia. In 1955 he married Janice Lucille Elkins Stephens who preceded him in death on June 22, 2001. For seventeen years he worked for C & O Railroad in Russell, Kentucky. On December 6, 1970 they moved to Stone Mountain, GA and in 1972 Clarence opened C. E. Stephen''s Carpet Service and continued to own and operate it until 1995. In March of 1992 he moved to Eatonton where he enjoyed fishing and hunting.
He is survived by his children, Lyndsay (David) Johnston, Cheryl (Edwin) Flowers, Rebecca Cothran and Clarence Edward "Eddie" Stephens II; siblings, Mary Miller, John Stephens, Gladys Gostovich and Debbie Stephens; grandchildren, Christi (Brian) Mobley, Eric (Leslie) Flowers, Chad Flowers, Tyler Flowers, Bridgett (Jett) Deleon; great grandchildren, Meiko Deleon, Adrion Deleon, and Zoe Flowers; and a host of friends. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Chevyonne Cothran; two great grandchildren, Brandalyn Mobley and Savanna Mobley; and siblings, Betty Gano, Bob Stephens, Frannie Varney and Charles Perry.
Memorial services will be held Sunday, August 22, 2010 at McCommons Chapel at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Brian Mobley officiating.
