Christine Akins Obituary

Christine Poss Akins, age 85, of Greensboro, Georgia, went to heaven Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at St. Mary''s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro. Christine was born April 16, 1926 to the late Joseph Albert Poss and Maggie C. Ogletree Poss in Taliaferro County, but spent most of her life in Greene County. She moved to Greensboro with her husband Garnett Evans Akins. They were married for sixty wonderful years when he passed away in 2005. She was a textile worker for Mary Leila Cotton Mill which later became Wellington Puritan. Christine was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro and served in the AWANA program for a number of years, and support ministry and outreach all her life. Christine (Mama and Nanny) always gave love as she cooked, sewed, canned and froze food for her family.

She is survived by two daughters, June A. Franck and husband David of Allen, TX and Jean Akins of Greensboro, GA; three grandchildren and five great grandchildren, Mark Hudson and son Marcus of Allen, TX, Carol Holloway, husband Jim and their children Jake and Alyssa of Allen, TX, and Brian Franck, wife Angela and their children Emily and Ashlyn of Princeton, TX; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by two siblings, Amy Williamson and Clyde Kent.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, March 17, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church of Greensboro with Rev. Dr. Norman Waldrip and Rev. Rick Hermann officiating. Interment will follow at Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Brian Franck (Grandson), Mark Hudson (Grandson), Jim Holloway (Grandson), Jake Holloway (Great Grandson), Marcus Hudson (Great Grandson), Byron Akins (Nephew), Sam Williamson (Nephew) and Tim Taylor (Great Nephew). Honorary pallbearers are Kenny Williamson (Nephew) and Freddie Lonergan (Cousin). The family will receive friends from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday night at the funeral home and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday morning at First Baptist Church.
