Charles Francis Tarpley, age 81, of Greensboro, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 22, 2006 at Minnie G. Boswell Memorial Hospital. A lifelong resident of Greene County, he was born September 13, 1924 to the late Charlie Mell Tarpley and Frances Strickland Tarpley. He was a graduate of Greensboro High School. During World War II he served in the United States Navy. Along with Chelsey and Jeff Cook he was a house painter and during his spare time he loved to fish. Mr. Tarpley was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Greshamville and the VFW post #4259 in Greensboro.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Herrington Tarpley in 2000; a daughter, Carol Moncrief in 1979; and two sisters, Annie Bray and Nina Breaux. He is survived by a daughter, Diane Akins and husband Wayne of Greensboro, GA; two brothers, Thomas Tarpley and wife Annette of Augusta, GA and Wallace M. Tarpley and wife Gloria of Alabaster, AL; three grandchildren, Holley Cooper of Toomsboro, GA, Missy Hatsis of Greensboro, GA and Renee Janes of Greensboro, GA; nine great grandchildren, T. J. Janes, Bradley Janes, Deavon Janes, Peyton Janes, Jessie Boyd, Austin Peavy, Tyler Peavy, Diana Peavy and Emma Rose Cooper; and a number of other relatives and friends. Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 24, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Mike Pritchett officiating. Interment services will follow at Greensboro City Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers are Mike Herrington, George Cannon, Randy Herrington, Larry Herrington, Jeff Cook and Doug Cannon.
