Charles Russell, Sr. Obituary

CHARLES MILTON RUSSELL, SR.
LAKE OCONEE AND CONYERS

Charles Milton Russell was born on August 6, 1930 in Wilmington, N.C.  to Thelma Howard Russell and Luther Oscar Russell, both deceased.   His siblings Luther (Sonny) Russell, Donald Weeks Russell and Betty Ann Saliba Lioon are also deceased.  He passed away peacefully at home on September 16, 2018.

After graduation from New Hanover High School he entered into Emory University School of Business.  He was a member of the Chi Phi Fraternity.  After he worked for several corporations he started a wholesale motor oil company (Beam Oil) in Atlanta in 1968.  He sold it in 1984 and sold commercial real  estate in Conyers for American Land Mart.  He acquired several rental houses and formed Russell Rentals LLC.

He was a member of the Kiwanis Club serving as President of Peachtree Atlanta Kiwanis and Rockdale Kiwanis.  In Conyers, he served on several community committees and was President of Rockdale Republican Party.  In Lake Oconee he was a board member of Circle of Love, and a master gardener.

In his sophomore year, he married his high school sweetheart Shirley Phillips Russell. If he had lived until December, they would have been married sixty-eight years. They have three children: Libby Beasley-Perdue (Robert) of Cartersville, Charles (Chuck) Russell, Jr. (Beth) of Conyers and Nancy Russell Hunter (Fred) of Greensboro, Ga.  He had five grandchildren: Heather Russell Eckstein (Paul) of Dallas, Texas, Sha Ristroph (Steve) of Cartersville, Charles (Chip) Russell III (Brandi) of Macon, Callie Russell Hecht (Ben) of Columbus, Crisara Douglas Hunt (Marc) of Marietta.  He adored his great grandchildren Bailey, Faith, Madison, Emma, Sam, James, Amanda (Dusty), Jack, Hatsy, Charles IV, Mills, and two great-great grandchildren Kaydence and Audrey.

Charles loved politics, fishing, traveling all over the world and the United States,  going to and giving parties, and fellowship with friends.  He never met a stranger.  His greatest joy was being with all the family on vacations and birthdays.  He recently celebrated his 88th birthday with all the family present.  His extended family included several nieces and nephews.  He enjoyed his fellowship with his neighbors in Double Branches. He was a faithful member of First United Methodist Church of Conyers and First United Methodist Church of Greensboro.
