Charles Alexander McKinley, age 93, of Siloam, Georgia, died Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at the Rockdale Healthcare Center in Conyers, GA. A native of Greene County he was born November 5, 1923 in Siloam, GA to the late James Lawson McKinley and Ulmer O’Neal McKinley. He graduated from Greensboro High School, Duke University and received a Masters Degree in German from Colorado College in Colorado Springs. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during World War II. After the war he was a college professor and taught the German language at Piedmont College, Valdosta State University and the University of Georgia. For many years he studied abroad and traveled extensively. Charles was a very talented musician and played for many of the local churches. Later in life he taught piano to many students in Greene County. He was a member of the Siloam Baptist Church.
Charles is survived by a sister, Louise M. Allen of Dalton, GA; a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his siblings, Helen Frances McKinley who died as an infant in 1914, Dorothy Eleanor McKinley Bacon, Edith McKinley Strayer, James Abbott McKinley and Kenneth O’Neal “Cotton” McKinley.
Graveside Services will be held on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. at the Siloam Cemetery, Church Street, Siloam, GA 30665 with Rev. James Bowen officiating.
