Charles Lindbergh Copelan of Greensboro, GA, died on Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at Greene Point Health and Rehabilitation in Union Point at the age of 85. A lifelong resident of Greensboro, GA, he was born on May 26, 1927 to the late Jasper Thomas Copelan and Sara Mae Finch Copelan. Mr. Copelan was a high school graduate of Greensboro High School in the class of 1947 and attended the University of Georgia. He served his country in the Pacific as a Seabee in the United States Navy during World War II. On July 24, 1949, he married the former Beverly Moore at the First United Methodist Church in Greensboro. From 1960 until 1985 he worked for the Georgia Department of Natural Resources as a Game Warden and retired after twenty-five years of service. He also owned and operated a dairy farm along with his son, Bruce Copelan. He enjoyed many outdoor activities such as hunting, fishing, finding and collecting arrowheads and feeding his wild geese and turkeys. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Greensboro and the Hamp''s Sunday School Class. He was also a past director of the Farm Bureau, and a member of The San Marino Lodge #34, VFW and the Peace Officer''s Association.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Beverly Moore Copelan of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, Carol Hogan and husband David of Waynesboro, GA; two sons, Bruce Copelan and wife Julie of Greensboro, GA and Lindy Copelan of Greensboro, GA; six grandchildren, Kellie Webster and husband Will, Russell Copelan, Randall Copelan, Davison Hogan, Lauren Hogan and Hamilton Hogan; two great grandchildren, Lillie Webster and Mallory Webster. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Gary Copelan, a brother, Jesse Thomas Copelan, Sr. and a sister, Margaret Copelan David.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the First Baptist Church, 203 S. Main Street, Greensboro, GA with Rev. Rick Hermann and Rev. Michael Hardy officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Russell Copelan, Davision Hogan, Hamilton Hogan, Josh Copelan, Will Webster, Ray Duvall and Chris Houston. Honorary pallbearers will be Johnny Hester, Ronald Woodson, Richard Roberts, Kent Walker, Gentry Strickland, Butch David, Ray Copelan, Jesse Copelan, Jr., Dr. Billy Copelan, Zippy Duvall and Dr. W. H. Rhodes, Jr. The family will receive friends Wednesday night from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at McCommons Funeral Home.
